Lloyd Ellett sets his sights on the British title

Ringnews24.com: You recently signed for Frank Warren – did you have any other offers on the table and why did you choose Queensberry Promotions?

We spoke to a couple of others but yeah, when this was an option it seemed like a no-brainer. It made sense: it’s on TV with a promoter who has got, you know, the best track record of building fighters and he also had a couple of the lads in my gym – Bradley Skeete and Lewis Pettitt – they’re also signed to BoxNation, so I have heard good things.

Ringnews24.com: Was TV exposure one of the main considerations for you before signing?

Yeah, definitely, definitely TV exposure – it’s important, you know, definitely. I have appeared on BoxNation only the once – I only signed in March and boxed that month, so yeah, I have only had one fight since I have been with Frank.

Ringnews24.com: Can you give us an insight into what Frank has planned for you?

Well, I don’t know exactly. My next fight isn’t actually going to be on BoxNation – I am boxing in Brighton in six weeks on 24th July that’s hopefully going to be for a belt; we’re waiting to have that confirmed. I will be on BoxNation again in September; I believe some dates have been pushed back due to the Saunders-Eubank on-and-off situation. So, we’re going September, and then hopefully look for a big fight before the end of the end of year.

Ringnews24.com:  In our last interview you said you have been getting nutrition advice from Physiques Nutrition – are you still getting their help and what benefits are you gaining from their knowledge?

Yeah, a guy Darren Deane from Physiques Nutrition – he does my diets he’s done it for about a year-and-a-half now. He is brilliant, he gives me a plan and he’ll change it gradually if the fight gets closer – it really makes a difference, definitely.

Ringnews24.com: Who has been the biggest influence in your career so far?

Well, Scott Welch is my manager and he was also my trainer as an amateur and at the start of my pro career; he has been very influential. And also being at the Ibox gym with Alan Smith, Eddie Lam is also added to that as well, so they have all played a big role.

Ringnews24.com:  Who did you look up to growing up as a boxer – who was your idol?

I love the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Floyd Mayweather and James Toney – I used to watch DVDs of them all the time, and Roy Jones – those guys I would say.

Ringnews24.com: You have been over training at Floyd Mayweather’s gym, what was that experience like and what did you gain from it?

Yeah, that was amazing – every day there was like at least a couple of big names in the gym and we were sparring more or less every day for two weeks. And it was against people I didn’t know and they didn’t know me. It was – you know, the atmosphere in the gym – people coming up to you saying you they want to spar you and no one knew you. They were like “Do you want to spar? You working today? You want to work today?” It takes you out of your comfort zone and I don’t think you can buy that sort of experience.

Ringnews24.com:  You have headlined and sold out three shows in Brighton – does that bring added pressure and does it affect you as a fighter?

Well, I will be headlining in Brighton again in six weeks’ time, but I don’t mind the pressure; I would rather be headlining it than not headlining it. I thrive on it really, I love fighting in Brighton – it’s brilliant, I love it.

Ringnews24.com:  Liam Smith is the current British champion. Does that fight interest you?

I think the British title is what definitely the one that everyone is looking to. I think Liam’s ready to move on to world level, so there is now a good 10 fighters underneath him who are there in the pack chasing for that title. So that will be interesting over the next year.

Ringnews24.com: You have a 10-round fight coming up on July 24th at the Hilton Metropole in Brighton – Do you know who you are fighting yet?

At the moment I don’t – I think they’re going to sort it out this week and work out what the belt is going to be for as well. So, I hopefully will have a bit more information this week.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a message for the fans?

Yeah, a big thank you for all the support I have received so far and it’s been incredible, and yeah, 24th July should be a good night. And keep following – the best has yet to come.

Thank you for talking to Ringnews24. Good luck with your upcoming fight.

Yeah, thank you, Thanks a lot for getting in touch.
