David Haye comeback imminent, Shane McGuigan training ‘The Hayemaker’

David Haye with new trainer Shane McGuigan

The long planned comeback of David Haye took another twist. He has teamed up with trainer Shane McGuigan. Haye recently called time on his gym in Vauxhall, London and is now training at McGuigan’s gym in Battersea.

Talking to The Lad Bible: ‘Looking at all of the British and world fighters, the one that stood out for me is Carl Frampton,’ Haye said.

‘Carl’s speed, timing, accuracy and punch variety is something I didn’t have in my arsenal.

‘The guy behind that is Shane McGuigan so he’s the guy I sought out.’

‘There’s nothing in the everyday world that can give you the same buzz as walking to a ring with 20,000 screaming for a fight.

‘I can understand why boxers keep coming back… being one of them.’

Shane McGuigan added: ‘David is a natural athlete, punches extremely hard and has great balance and great timing. It’s easy to work with a guy as talented as that.’

Shane McGuigan has been instrumental in the success of Carl Frampton. Frampton recently teamed up with advisor Al Haymon, the head of the vast Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). It’s quite possible that Haye could be following the same route and that road would then lead to a mouthwatering clash with current WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

Haye was last seen in a ring back in July 2012, when he impressively KO’d Dereck Chisora in five rounds. Three fights have since fallen through, against Manuel Charr and Tyson Fury (twice) due to cuts and a shoulder injury. The charismatic, power-puncher is a two-weight World champion, at Cruiserweight and Heavyweight. It will be interesting to see who he faces but several fighters including Tony Bellew and Malik Scott have expressed a willingness to fight the Bermondsey boxer.

Haye tweeted this to his followers on Twitter:

You gotta Love Social media, I’ve have @BigRogie (Martin Rogan) @TonyBellew @MalikKingScott @MarkDeMori all offer their services as my come back victim.

For his fans the wait seems finally over. At 35-years-old, it will be interesting to see what warm-up fights Haye takes in his quest to move back up the rankings.

Update: A Press conference will be held at the O2 Arena, London this Tuesday, 24th November at 10am. It is expected that Haye will announce his comeback opponent.
