Joe Hand Boxing Gym to host Community Fitness Day

The Joe Hand Boxing Gym and Computer Lab will host a free Community Fitness Day on Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for children ages 10 through 17.

The event, sponsored by Enterprise Holdings, Federal Donuts, Stogie Joe’s, Bistro di Marina and more, will show the children the benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle. All children attending the Community Fitness Day will learn all aspects of boxing and various exercises from the professional coaches at the Joe Hand Boxing Gym. Children should arrive to the gym with gym shorts and sneakers.

Also scheduled to make special appearances are two of Philadelphia’s favorite fighters: former World Champion, Bernard Hopkins (55-7-2, 32K0s) and heavyweight contender Amir Mansour (22-2-1, 16K0s).

According to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sport and Nutrition, only one-in-three children are physically active every day. They also spend more than 7 ½ hours a day in front of a video screen. It’s important to show kids at an early age the benefits of physical activity because it sets up the foundation to live a healthy life.

The Joe Hand Boxing Gym is at 574 N. Third Street in Philadelphia. For any questions, call (215) 271-4263 or visit the gym’s website at www.JoeHandGym.com.

About Joe Hand Boxing Gym & Computer Lab
Opened in 1995 by Joe Hand Promotions, the Joe Hand Boxing Gym has been a community landmark for years. In 2002, the Joe Hand Boxing Gym was honored with the prestigious Philadelphia Sports Congress Community Service Award. Joe Hand, Sr., a retired Philadelphia police officer, sees the gym as a safe place for Philly’s children and young adults to come and hone their boxing skills or spend time learning computer skills.

The Joe Hand Boxing Gym offers regulation boxing rings, brand new equipment, and a modern computer center where anyone from the community can participate in the education process, whether or not they’re interested in boxing training.
