Ryan Young vs Ryan Wagner in Battle of Ontario

On Saturday, September 24, United Boxing Promotions returns to the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, for a much anticipated ten round “Battle of Ontario” between their blue chip, super welterweight prospect Ryan Young (9-0-0, 7KOs) of Oakville and crowd favourite Ryan “The Nightmare” Wagner (6-3-0, 3KOs) of Orangeville. With an impressive seven knockouts, Young has slugged his way through a number of rugged international opponents of late, becoming one of the fastest rising prospects at 154lbs. At the same time, Wagner has entered a new stage of his career, fighting all comers to reestablish himself as a leading Canadian contender.

In 2015, Young showed he has endurance as well as fight-ending power by taking unanimous decision victories over Nestor Faccio (15-7-2, 9KOs) and Bruno Leonard Romay (16-4-0, 14KOs). But make no mistake, Young still packs plenty of punch. Just ask Hungary’s Krisztian Santa (12-7-2), who Young dispatched by fifth round TKO last August. “I’m excited to be back in the ring September 24th,” says Young. “I think with the announcement of Wagner as my opponent more people are going to come watch the fight and support this card. We are both local guys and he’s coming off of a win against another undefeated fighter, which begs the question: can he do it again? It makes for an exciting fight. I’m patiently waiting for September 24th to showcase the quality of my strength and conditioning program and boxing IQ .”

Since taking a brief layoff from the ring in 2012, Wagner has returned in style, battling the best available opposition while working in Alberta. Last year, in his biggest win to date, “the Nightmare” edged reigning Canadian super welterweight champion Stuart McLellan (15-2-3, 5KOs) via split decision. Wagner is confident he can pull off another upset. “Young. You are making a big mistake. Period,” explained a confident Wagner. “I’m coming for you. Your zero will be another added to my list. You haven’t fought a man with bad intentions yet. You will learn what that is like come September 24. You will always remember me. Train hard because you can bet I am. I’ll be ready for whatever you bring.”
