Hugely-popular Jack Massey earns TV deal

Jack Massey

Steve Wood has revealed that hugely-popular and talented cruiserweight, Jack Massey, has been signed by BoxNation and will appear on the dedicated boxing channel a number of times before the end of 2017.

Chapel-en-le-Frith’s Massey, who has sold over 600 tickets for his upcoming October 1st headline slot at the Devonshire Dome, is a former ABA champion who is currently 10-0 (5) as a pro.

Trained by experienced-cornerman Bobby Rimmer, Massey takes on Poland’s Jarek Pruzak, 8-1, live and free on Vipboxing.tv this Saturday, with Wood confident the 23-year-old is a future star of the 14st 4lbs division.

“Jack is still really young, especially for a cruiserweight, and we’ve deliberately brought him on slowly,” stated Wood, who runs VIP Promotions.  “Already though he’s a success story for VIP because we’ve got him to the stage where he’s been picked up by a major broadcaster.  We’ve done the same with Terry Flanagan who’s gone on to win a world title on BoxNation, and Josh Warrington who will fight for world honours soon on Sky Sports.  And don’t forget Terry didn’t do anything in the amateurs, and although Josh won a Junior ABA title he didn’t win the Seniors, but we’ve still managed to get both to the top of the sport.

“When the Boxnation contract begins, Jack will continue to appear on Vipboxing.tv where fans can watch him live and for free, and he’ll still headline at the Buxton Dome which is a sellout every time he fights.  The plan is to let him develop until we feel it’s the right time to go for a major title.  I have Matty Askin and Tommy McCarthy fighting in a British title eliminator of my October 22 show in Bolton, they are the ‘young guns’ of the cruiserweight division but I think Jack would beat both of them now.  We want him to develop a bit more though so that when he does win the title, he’ll keep hold of it.  I expect Jack to go as far as Terry and Josh; it’s a big ask, but I think he can do it.”

“Fighting on BoxNation will be great for me,” said Massey.  “It’s going to get my name out there worldwide, and to lots more boxing fans in Great Britain.  It’s exciting and I’m really looking forward to it.

“My career’s going great so far, Steve’s been taking it slowly with me and is building me into bigger things but I’m looking forward to stepping it up.  The better the opponent the better I perform, so I can really show what I can do.  I’ve sparred with both Matty and Tommy and I know what they’re capable of; I’m sure I’ll end up meeting one, if not both, in the future.

“This Saturday’s show is going to be massive, it’s going to be a great atmosphere again.  It’s amazing to fight in front of that kind of support.  I don’t know much about my opponent but I’ll go out there and do what I’ve been doing in the gym and get the win.  Hopefully it’ll be a good fight.”
