P & D Promotions: Boxing with a Bang in Cardiff

The historic Coal Exchange in Cardiff hosted a fantastic night’s entertainment on Saturday (21st January), with live music and several bouts of boxing.

The evenings bouts matched Welsh boxers against Manchester club DNA.

Opening bout of the evening matched Light Heavyweights: Welshman Darren Hayward vs Paul Davies (DNA)

The 1st round was close with Hayward using pressure and timing his rushes against the taller Southpaw, Davies, who moved well and used the jab. In the 2nd Hayward continued his march forward and used some well placed bodyshots to hurt his opponent. The pace of the action appeared to be getting to Davies and Hayward turned up the pressure. Davies was unable to continue after the bell and Hayward won via 2nd round retirement.

Fight 2: In a Super Middleweight content, Team DNA got their 1st win of the night. Paul Neil used his boxing skills to great effect to gain a 2nd round retirement win over Welshman Gareth Stokes.

Fight 3: Next up was the popular, hard hitting Jamie ’Weetch’ Jay against Munch of DNA. In a three round Middleweight bout.

Jay showed a good jab and combinations along with a potent right hand to take the 1st round. In the 2nd Jay used a body attack to great effect causing two knockdowns, as he was overpowering his opponent.

Munch bravely came out for the 3rd round but was quickly overwhelmed by Jay’s relentless assault and the referee called a halt to proceedings.

Fight 4: The talented Manchester based fighter Ish was up against the experienced local fighter Carl Williams. In a closely fought, competitive fight, Welterweight fight. The slick styled Ish won a close decision over three rounds.

Fight 5: The Fight of the night was both exciting and brutal to watch. Chris Tresize, of DNA, overcame Duane Keen. The bout saw both men landing hard shots but it was a thunderous right hand from Tresize that heavily dropped Keen in the 1st. Keen did well to get up from the shot and complete the round. The 2nd saw Tresize looking to capitalise and use the overhand right to great effect. It was the right hand that did the damage and thunderous shots brought the KO win in the 2nd. A superb victory for the Englishman, Tresize.
