Lenny Daws v Jason Cook – Result

Londoner Lenny Daws defended his British light-welterweight title after drawing with Welshman Jason Cook at Bethnal Green’s York Hall on Friday.

Daws, 31, was rocked in the first round with a huge left from 34-year-old Cook and also sustained a cut under his left eye before coming back into the fight.

The early rounds were shaded by Cook before Daws upped the pace from the seventh, also rocking him in the 10th.

Two judges awarded it 115-114 to either man with the other scoring it 114-114.

It looked as if an upset might be on the cards with Cook starting the fight in blistering fashion.

He hurt Daws early in the first, rocked him again in the second and while the Londoner came back into the fight in the third, Cook was dominant in the early rounds.

But a good seventh from Daws saw him take control and as Cook tired, he tightened his grip.

A big right in the tenth almost sent Cook to the canvas and the final two rounds saw the Welshman hold on.

“I thought I’d done enough to nick the fight, as it went on I felt I was winning,” said Daws.

The draw was Daws’s second of his 23 fight career which has just the one blemish, while Cook suffered the first draw of his 30-fight career. He has also lost three times.

“I took his early shots, got into a rhythm and I thought I won the fight,” added Daws.

Cook conceded that he felt he had lost the fight.

“I thought I dominated early on and he came back and I thought he might have nicked it by a couple of rounds,” he said.
