Defending WBA Featherweight Champion Yuriorkis Gamboa gained a unanimous decision over Jonathan Victor Barros in the Sporthalle, Alsterdorf, Hamburg, Germany.
The undefeated Cuban (18-0,15 Ko’s) controlled most of the fight and tempo in what can mainly be described as exhibition stuff, he used good movement and made the challenger miss regularly.
Barros (28-1-1,16 Ko’s) was floored in the 8th round but cameback well to tag the champion at the end of the round. Gamboa suffered a nasty cut in the 10th from an accidental clash and didn’t really get back in his stride. The final round saw both fighters land heavy shots with Gamboa seemingly having Barros in trouble but too tired to capitalise.
The judges scores were 118-109(twice) and 116-111.
