Jean Pascal v Bernard Hopkins Preview

On the 18th of December we will witness the ageless executioner Bernard Hopkins, try and take the Light Heavyweight WBC belt from the grasp of Jean Pascal. The fight takes place in Pascal’s backyard, at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, Canada.

Pascal’s last four fights have been at the Pepsi Coliseum, Pascal took on Adrian Diaconu (26-0) and went onto win a unanimous decision on the 19th of June 09, followed by a victory over Silvio Branco (59-9-2) 3 months later. A rematch against Adrian Diaconu took place on the 11th December 09, the result was another unanimous decision to Pascal. In the most recent of fights at the Pepsi Coliseum we saw Jean Pascal take on Chad Dawson (29-0) who went on to shock the world with a technical decision going in his favour.

Coming into this fight we see Bernard Hopkins is on a three fight win streak, having beaten Kelly Pavlik (34-0) on a unanimous decision who many though he had no chance against. He then took on Enrique Ornelas (29-5-0) which resulted in another unanimous decision before taking on and beating his old enemy, Roy Jones Jr (54-6-0) in a similar outcome. So what type of fight can we expect from the ageless executioner Hopkins and the young, hungry, aggressive Pascal?

Jean Pascal called out his fellow boxers Lucian Bute, Bernard Hopkins, and the retired, unbeaten light heavyweight Joe Calzaghe to fight him after his win over Chad Dawson. Step Forward Bernard Hopkins, Pascal will be looking to add Hopkins to his resume in a quest to become the light heavyweight king, while the underdog Hopkins will be looking to cause another upset, can he do it?

The boxing world thought that Pascal’s next opponent would be against his Canadian rival Lucian Bute, in a fight that would have been huge in Canada. I’m not sure what Pascal gains from taking on Hopkins rather than taking on Bute?

Bernard Hopkins v Jean Pascal Budweiser Boxing / Ringnews24.com Predictions

the_budweiser – I feel Bernard Hopkins will test Jean Pascal a lot more towards the end of the fight when Pascal’s stamina comes into question. But as long as Jean Pascal can pace himself correctly and not be dragged into fighting Hopkins fight, I can see him winning by a close unanimous decision. Pascal’s key to success will be his speed and movement to get out of the way of Hopkins long reach.
