Scotland’s John Simpson defeated Martin Lindsay in his home town of Belfast to take the British featherweight championship with judges scores coming in at 116-113 116-113 116-113 all in favor of Simpson in a very good fight.
In a busy battle both gave their all, but it was Simpson from Greenock, that started and finished the exchanges with just that extra bit more left in his locker when the going got tough in the second half of the fight.
Simpson was hurting the champion Lindsay to the body, which took a lot of Lindsay energy, he looked a little out of sorts at times and not quite himself. But take nothing away from Simpson, it was a terrific performance from him fighting in the champions back yard of the King’s Hall in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
This was make or break for Simpson tonight after having some bad decisions go against him in the past, he as resurrected his career and in doing so won the Lonsdale belt outright with this win.
Lindsay will now take a break over Christmas before re-mapping his route back to try and claim his title back.
