Paul Appleby – A Look Back At 2010

2010 started as a pick me up fight for Appleby after his TKO to Martin Lindsay in Ireland against Yordan Vasilev. The fight didn’t last long as Appleby finished his man off in two rounds. Appleby was to fight his second fight inside a month, this time up was Mickey Coveney which also wasn’t much of a challenge to Appleby who went on to win by TKO4.

Next up was Nigeria’s Joseph Laryea, many wrote this fight off as another easy win for Appleby myself included, but how wrong were we? Appleby started well in this fight but a cut opened up above his left eye in the third round which clearly bothered him throughout the fight. Appleby struggled against the tough Nigerian all night long after the cut and it was Laryea who was getting stronger and stronger as the fight went on. The fight went to the scorecards and everyone was shocked when a split decision was read out,  but thank fully the right man one on the night, Layrea won the fight 112-116, Zoltan Enyedi 115-113, Tom Miller 111-117.

The future still looks bright for Appleby and with Frank Warren’s guidance he will only get better.
