Watson vs Crolla now in the works

With the withdrawal of Gavin Rees for the February 16th bout against John Watson, Anthony Crolla will reportedly be fighting Watson as a replacement for the British lightweight title.

Rees will allegedly vacate his lightweight british title so Watson and Crolla can contest it. Even though Anthony mainly boxes as a super featherweight, he is no stranger to boxing at 135lb, having made his debut at the weight.

Rees vs Watson last took place in November and was a Fight of the Year candidate, and it was, perhaps, one of the most eagerly anticipated British rematches this year.
However, Rees pulled out, citing an injury to his nose. He will most likely be back in the ring sometime before June.

For Watson, this is another chance for him to capture the title that he challenged Rees for back in November. Watson should have learnt a lot from last year’s exciting bout, and it was most likely a case of boxing an experienced fighter too soon. He will want to prove that he can make a genuine mark on the British scene by getting a win over Crolla.
