The Celtic War – Andy Lee v Craig McEwan

A week before St Patrick’s Day we will witness a Celtic War in Ireland’s Andy Lee (24-1-0) v Scottish Craig McEwan (19-0), The bout will be televised by HBO on March 12th at Foxwood’s Resort Casino. The middleweight fight is the supporting bill to Sergio Martinez v Sergei Dzinziruk.

 

Craig McEwan

Craig McEwan was born on the 13th April 1982. He started boxing for his father at Clovenstone Amateur Boxing Club age 7, before turning professional in 2006. McEwan was seen as a hot prospect for the future and became only the second UK fighter to sign with Golden Boy Promotion’s. McEwan boxes out of the Wilcard gym and is currently trained by Freddie Roach. McEwan is currently undefeated in 19 fights with 10 coming by KO however Andy Lee will be the biggest test of McEwan’s career with the winner deemed likely to be given a world title shot.

Andy Lee

Andy Lee was born in Bow,London on the 11th June 1984. Lee started boxing at the age of 8 at London’s Repton Boxing Club. Lee parents moved to Ireland were Lee then began boxing at St Francis ABC in Limerick were his boxing career took off. Emanuel Steward followed Lee’s progress since the World junior championships were Lee picked up a silver medal. Lee turned professional and signed with Steward and emigrated to the USA to work at Steward’s Kronk gym in Detroit. Lees current record stands at 24 fights with 18 coming by KO with one defeat to Brian Vera in 2008.
