Emanuel Steward has confirmed there are no immediate plans for Miguel Cotto to face pound for pound boxer, Sergio Martinez in the near future.
Emanuel stated in an interview: “In the future, I don’t hear of any immediate plans for Miguel to fight Martinez, probably for the simple reason of the promotional agreements, which we learned are more important than what the public wants. Certain promoters are not going to let their fighters fight other promoter’s fighters. That is something that can happen down the line, but there are not any plans for Cotto to fight Martinez.”
This writer admires Steward for being honest, something that is rarely seen in boxing, especially when it comes to talking about the business side of the sport. Fans know that promoters place more importance on not losing money for themselves over what the public demands, and Steward just confirms this. Well done, Manny!
