Cyclone Gamboa heading straight for JuanMa Lopez!

Aptly named ‘The Cyclone’, Gamboa came out and thoroughly dominated Jorge Solis Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  It was no surprise to many of us that Gamboa was going to continue to stamp his brand of excellence all over Solis, despite Solis’s ring experience and past level of opposition.  Make no mistake about Solis, he fought a very competitive fight with the now omnipotent (well almost) Pacquiao, who was every bit the terror back then, giving Pacquiao fits every bit of the way. I certainly thought that Solis would give Gamboa fits as did Salido. Much to my dismay the opposite happened.

I’m not upset, I enjoyed the fight. Five knockdowns in four rounds.

With every convincing win Gamboa and JuanMa earn, the more the boxing public becomes enthralled with the potential showdown that will eventually – and soon – replace the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight we’ve all been clamouring for.

On the flip side of the coin…

Juan Manuel Lopez is taking on Orlando Salido in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on April 16th – entertaining and exciting appetizers being fed to us by Top Rank’s matchmakers. I’d say they are doing a great job.  Watching Gamboa and JuanMa share opponents – watching one blow out his opponent while the other struggles with the same – only makes me salivate.

Gamboa fought Salido in September of 2010. The fight was a tough one for Gamboa, who seemed at times befuddled by the relentless pressure and grit of Salido, tasting the canvas himself. Salido, even though he was not a very polished fighter, was a great opponent and showed that Gamboa struggles against these types of fighters.  JuanMa possesses more grit and strength than Salido, is more polished and has every chance of beating the beautifully gifted Gamboa.

As we all look forward to the April 16th match up for another exciting morsel, in which I predict a convincing early knockout win for JuanMa, ‘The  Cyclone’ Gamboa continues to pick up momentum heading straight towards JuanMa, who is the only one who could weather the storm.

It might very well be too early for a prediction but no doubt about it, JuanMa will eat shot after shot, but like Marquez, Gamboa will eventually succumb to the power of the Puerto Rican.
