Khan accepts pay cut to save McCloskey fight

Amir Khan has today accepted a 1 million pay cut to save his bout with Paul McCloskey.

The card was put in jeopardy after SKY television removed the event from Pay Per View, and to make matters worse, Hasim Rahman pulled out of facing Tyson Fury, which was to act as a particular undercard bout.

But now Khan’s father, Shah has confirmed the bout will be going ahead.

“The fight is definetely on. Amir is taking the maximum purse reduction so that McCloskey still gets decent money. Both fighters have agreed to go ahead,” said Shah.

Amir was initially going to take home 1.25 million for the fight but has now going to get an 80% reduction, making his purse a total of £250,000.

Despite SKY’s lack of optimism for the event to not attract a Pay Per View audience, 14,000 seats have been sold at the MEN arena in Manchester. At this point, the removal of Khan vs McCloskey from SKY’s scheduling is still in place, although that is expected to change in light of Khan’s acceptance of a pay cut.
