Bob Arum has stated that Juan Manuel Lopez will fight Yuriorkis Gamboa before June in 2012, but that it must take place at 130lb.
The promoter is currently organising plans for the bout and said, “That’s a great fight and we must get it done in the first six months of 2012, but at 130 pounds. Gamboa must fight once more before the end of the year and it could be in Puerto Rico, and there is a large Cuban community here. We are discussing this with Peter Rivera (Puerto Rico Best Boxing promoter).”
When asked where the bout should be held, Arum responded, “We’re looking to hold it at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Gamboa has a Cuban community in Florida, but they do not support the Cuban fighters. Juanma Lopez has a great personality. When he went to the Philippines, he was well received there. They loved him in Mexico, and he’s loved among the Puerto Ricans in the United States. And that’s good for a pay per view audience.”
