“Dazzling” Darren wins back his European crown

Darren Barker came back from a year out to beat tough Italian, Domenico Spada. The scores were 115-113, 116-113, 116-113 to Barker. But many felt it should have been a wider margin.

Barker started well throwing great one-two combinations and slipping in and out of range. Spada proved tough though and just mainly threw wild hooks and kept a high guard. Barker continued through the first 6 rounds having great success with the jab which landed or opened up Spada’s guard for a right hand.

As the fight went into the later rounds Barker and Spada both tired, but Barker was doing enough to the win rounds with his higher work rate and cleaner shots. Spada was getting frustrated and starting spoiling and complaining to the referee and was just throwing the odd 3-4 punch burst which mostly landed on Barker gloves.

“Dazzling” Darren is back and looked very good for his first fight in 12 months. I would even say he did a better job than Zbik did against Spada which is very promising considering Zbik is a world title holder.

Darren Barker improves his unbeaten record to 23-0 14ko’s and with that his best performance to date. The only way is up for the man from Barnet, who is in touching distance of a world title.
