Khan to have meeting with former fitness coach, Ariza

WBA light-welterweight champion, Amir Khan has asked for a meeting to be held with former nutritionist and fitness coach, Alex Ariza to possibly reinstate his position.

It has been told that Khan is not happy with his current fitness trainer, Michael Vale, after his last WBA title defense against Paul McCloskey that took place last month in Manchester, England.

There had been comments from people that Khan looked gaunt and overtrained before the McCloskey fight, and Khan’s team obviously agree that Vale’s training techniques do not suit him.

Khan’s trainer, Freddie Roach said, “We are having a meeting with Amir, myself and Alex. The Khan’s requested it. Amir did not look himself against McCloskey. It was his first time Amir came to me and he had not worked with Alex. I wasn’t really that satisfied with the McCloskey fight.”

After the split, Ariza made a statement claiming that Khan’s family had broke into his hotel room to steal contract papers that would prove Ariza had been coaching Khan, indicating they may have done so to prevent a lawsuit being filed against them.

After the McCloskey fight, many said that it was the Irishman’s style of being able to avoid a lot of Khan’s punches that caused him to become fatigued. Perhaps Roach and Khan feel differently in that respect. The majority of public opinion is that it was Alex Ariza’s doing that Khan was able to compete with and beat heavy puncher, Marcos Maidana due to increased fitness. This would be hard to deny!

Reinstating Alex should give Amir Khan some psychological comfort knowing that he is also coaching pound for pound champion, Manny Pacquiao.

Only time will tell if Ariza and the Khan’s can sort things between them!
