Pacquiao gets points win over Mosley

Manny Pacquiao won a unanimous decision over ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas on Saturday night to retain his WBO welterweight title.
Trainer, Freddie Roach wanted to prove that the filipino fighter could do one better than Floyd Mayweather Jr and knock out Mosley, however, the ‘Pacman’ was unsuccessful.

From start to finish, Pacquiao used his speed to dart in and out and catch Mosley with blistering little combination punches to the head and body. In the third round, Pacquiao landed a straight left to Mosley’s head and floored the former lightweight and welterweight champion. Referee, Kenny Bayless started the obligatory count and Mosley stated that he was okay to continue.

Extraordinarily, in the 10th round, the eight weight champion was given a count, himself, as he hit the canvas, however, replays proved that he was pushed. Pacquiao respond to this by going for broke to try and knock out Mosley but failed to do so.

After the final bell rang, scores of 119-108, 120-108 and 120-107 were read out by Jimmy Lennon Jr and Manny Pacquiao was still the champion.

Last night’s victory will have done very little to prove who was the better fighter between Floyd and Manny. It would not be surprising at all to see Mayweather Jr still state that he is the “face of boxing”. Hopefully, there will be better things for Pacquiao next time and that he answers the fans prayers and faces somebody who will be more of a match.

And that means leaving Juan Manuel Marquez out of the loop, too. Marquez has demonstrated against Mayweather that he cannot carry weight above 135lb effectively, and this write can envision an easy victory over the Mexican.  Somebody like a Victor Ortiz or even a Timothy Bradley would possibly be more of a challenge.

But, at the end of the day money talks in this game and that will be the dominant factor, as always. And it’s a very real possibility that we have to go through another farce in watching Manny obliterate a blown up Marquez.

How unfortunate!
