Dawson captures the right to fight Hopkins
Chad Dawson went ‘fishing’ last night in Montreal for a ‘shark’ and captured the rights to fight the new WBC and IBO light-heavyweight world champion Bernard Hopkins. ‘Bad’ Chad Dawson (30-1-0-17KO) won a one-way fight against Adrian ’the Shark’ Diaconu (27-3-0-15KO) using his height, reach and speed to dominate the shorter reach and small opponent. (Dawson had 4 extra inches in height and reach)
The ‘hometown’ fighter spent the whole fight trying to find a way to get inside and hurt Dawson, which he did two times. For the majority of the bout ‘Bad’ Chad kept him at distance with his long jab. Adrian Diaconu was static, didn’t move much, but the new Emanuel Steward protégé was moving well, was very quick and clearly outboxed the courageous Diaconu who seemed to ignore what to do to hit Dawson during the fight.
In the other fights of the night: heavyweight Oscar ‘’Ka – boom’’ Rivas (6-0-0, 3KO) only took two minutes, of the opening round, to TKO his opponent Zsolt Zathureczky (3-1-0, 2KO). Welterweight Kevin Bizier (15-0-0, 11KO) won a bloody fight with a great left hook to the body, in the 5th, against Mauro Lucero (46-15-1, 32KO). Light heavyweight Eleider Alvarez (5-0-0, 3KO) won a four round hometown battle against David Whittom (11-15-1, 7KO) by unanimous decision. Super welterweight, Golden Boy Promotions’ prospect Michael Zewski (10-0-0, 6KO) won in front of friends and family by 3rd round KO against Ruben Galvan (27-17-4, 10KO). Light heavyweight Nicholson Poulard (17-3-0, 8 KO), Jean Pascal’s brother, won a ten round unanimous decision against Frankie Santos (17-10-4, 8 KO). Heavyweight Didier Bence (2-0-0, 2KO) won via second TKO against Dwayne Storey (4-7-0, 1KO)
