Froch out guns the road warrior

In the last semi final of the Super Six World Boxing Classic, Carl Froch retained his WBC title with a majority decision win over 42 year old Glen Johnson in Atlantic City.

The scores were 114-114, 117-111, 116-112, to give Froch the win.

I had it 119-111; I felt Froch was doing just enough to win most of the rounds.

It was a great fight for the fans in attendance, both trading big blows nonstop for 12 rounds. However, Froch was controlling the fight better with his movement and jab. Johnson kept coming forward and landed some huge right hands which Froch took well, but Froch like the warrior he is came straight back with a combinations to halt Johnsons attacks.

Round 1 was cagey they both took this round to figure each other out, Johnson seemed to win that round with more activity.

Through rounds 2-6 Froch and Johnson upped the pace and started trading in spots, but Froch was winning most of these rounds landed a crisp jab and landing many combinations. Johnson was landing the overhand right and some great double left hooks which took Froch off balance. You could feel the fight was slowly building into something great.

Round 7 Johnson started to come back, landing two right hands one after the other which seemed to get Froch’s warrior spirit to come out. Then they started trading shots through to round 9 in some of the best rounds you will see this year. These were the hardest rounds to score, with nothing to split the two.

In rounds 10-12 Johnsons corner were concerned and told him to up the pace and look for a knockout, but Froch was in his stride and in control and won these rounds boxing smart and out working Johnson to earn the decision win.

Froch now moves on to face Andre Ward the unbeaten American which will be unification for the WBA and WBC titles and to crown the winner of the Super Six Tournament. It should be a great event with a great clash of styles. I’ll be rooting for Froch but Ward although people don’t like his style looks like a boxer that will be very hard to beat for anyone in boxing.
