Gonzalez Named Prospect of the Month by Prestigious Latino Boxing Site

Latino boxing site NotiFight.com has awarded junior middleweight power-punching sensation Jonathan “Mantequilla” Gonzalez with their Prospect of the Month award for May.

Considered one of the top young prospects from Puerto Rico, Gonzalez was impressive in knocking out former The Contender contestant Rudy Cisneros in seven rounds at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California, and live on ESPN Friday Night Fights on May 13. The 21-year-old’s record now stands at an eye-catching 13-0 with 13 KOs.

Gonzalez, however, will not rest on this laurel very long.

He will face hard-hitting Richard Gutierrez (26-6-1, 16 KOs) for the NABA and WBO Latino Youth Junior Middleweight Championships at Boricua Invasion II, on June 11, at Roseland Ballroom in New York City and televised live on ShoBox: The New Generation at 10:35 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME.

“He is a fighter with great skill and most importantly, the desire to be the best,” said Gary Shaw, Gonzalez’s co-promoter.

Team Puerto Rico was developed by promoters Gary Shaw, Lou DiBella, Javier Bustillo and Leon Margules in order to group the best young talent on the island on one team.
