Bombs flew at Wembley arena last night as Tyson Fury beat Dereck Chisora for the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles in what was a very exciting back and forth contest that both men were very determined to win!
Tyson entered the arena looking confident and relaxed, interacting with the crowd on his way to the ring while Chisora came in head to toe, including face, wearing the British flag, much to the disapproval of the crowd.
As round one began, Chisora began stalking his enemy but was caught with an uppercut as he came in. A right hook from Fury stunned Chisora but the champion came back with a right hook to the head. A left hook glanced the face of Tyson Fury.
Chisora landed a left hook to the head of Fury early in round two and both fighters exchanged shots. Suddenly, another big left hook from Chisora landed right on the button and Fury wobbled around the ring. Chisora followed up with more lefts and Fury had to hold as the bell sounded.
This time in the third Fury tried jabbing to stop Chisora in his tracks. Right and left hooks from Chisora were blocked and Fury spent the round working very little, probably trying to recover from the disastrous second round.
Not much went on in the fourth as neither man really landed much of note, but Chisora did land a right hook to the head while Fury was backed up in a corner and another left hook landed.
Tyson Fury came back well in the fifth and scored with a combination to the head. The excess weight of Dereck Chisora began to tell here as he tired. Tyson landed head and body shots. Chisora’s workrate dropped in this round.
A left hook to the body of Chisora landed by Tyson in the sixth. Chisora was backed against the ropes but Tyson took his time to try and land clean shots. Fury began gaining control at this point and used the jab effectively.
In round seven, Tyson kept Chisora busy eating flurries. Chisora could not get in close like he did earlier in the bout. A right hook to the head landed from Fury. After missing a right hook upstairs, Chisora landed to manage a follow up.
Round eight, Tyson scored with a right uppercut but Chisora came back with a right hook. The man from Zimbabwe voluntarily moved to Fury’s corner to take more bombs from Fury, possibly trying to tire the 6’9 man out in an alternative gameplan. Chisora taunted Tyson but this had no effect. Tyson took his time again, being wary of not being caught with another big left hook from the smaller man and he was successful with a left hook near the bell.
Round nine was scrappy as both fighters held, the duration of the fight obviously taking it’s toll on them. Tyson put all his weight on Chisora in a clinch against the ropes. A combination from Tyson came to end the round.
In round ten, Dereck landed a right hook to the head within seconds of the bell sounding. A right uppercut was scored from Tyson as Chisora came forward. Very little from Tyson landed until Chisora exploded and scored hooks to the head. Chisora tried to follow up but Tyson back his foe up and almost pushed him out of the ring in an action packed round.
Chisora stalked Fury in round eleven and Tyson threw and landed several uppercuts but Chisora looked at Tyson and shrugged his shoulders as if to send a message that they had no effect. Both boxers fought on the inside.
The final round saw Chisora start fast and landed a good left jab but missed with a huge left hook. A toe to toe battle began to ensue as the bell sounded to end this thrilling domestic contest!
Unanimous scores of 117-112, 117-112 and 118-111 were read out and the audience saw a new champion as Tyson Fury was announced as the winner.
