Prospect Boxing: Chris Steel Upbeat Over Opponent Change

Chris Steel upbeat over change of opponent

September 10th sees an evening of International Boxing coming to Ayr Town Hall. Fighting on that card and looking to extend his unbeaten run is Chris “Stainless” Steel, although the welterweight has seen his original opponent (Super Steve Martin) pull out due to injury. An new opponent will be announced in the coming weeks

Given the change of opponent Steel still remains upbeat but still is inconvienenced by the change of opponent “ A change of opponent is always an inconvienence because you train for a certain style or type of opponent but it happened in all 3 of my fights so im getting used to it now. You just have to keep training and working hard”

He adds “ Im pretty versatile so i dont mind what type of opponent i get because i still need to be on top of my game everytime i get in their so it wont matter to me who i fight.”

After a last minute change in fight duration and being elevated to main event status, the novice felt he learnt a lot from his points win over Danny Dontchev “ I was in good condition anyway so it was just a matter of doing what I do for an extra two rounds. I controlled the fight from start to finish so just had to go that extra bit. In terms of learning I learned more about pacing myself and thinking my way through a fight.”

Looking forward, Steel is targeting a shot at the Scottish title, but not straight away “ I want that Scottish title strap around my waist by next year and I think it will be Eddie Doyle I will be challenging for that one. I think hes about 8 fights undefeated now. Fighting for a title will be over 10 rounds, 3 minutes a round. Once I have a few more fights under my belt and get used to going that amount of rounds I will be ready to fight anyone at the weight for that title”
