British Cruiserweight champion Rob Norton is aiming to hit the ground running against Streatham’s Leon William when the two clash at York Hall on 21st October. The fight will be live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Platform Ch.456) and will give champion Norton the opportunity to silence Williams who has taunted him by claiming that his opponent is ‘over the hill’.
Former Commonwealth champion Norton however is confident he can hold on to his British title when he and Williams cross through the ropes next Friday, commenting, “I’m looking forward to getting face to face with Williams after such a long time out of the ring. He’s still got a lot to prove and I think I should have too much for him on the night.”
Winning the bout would set up a showdown between Norton with young Queensberry Promotions prospect Tony Conquest, providing Conquest comes through his fight with Toks Owoh on 18th November . With the four fighters all vying for the British title, it marks the most competitive domestic cruiserweight division in years.
The fight is part of another action packed card from Queensberry Promotions, and the Warren brothers are keen to pick up where they left off in their last promotion in which Liam Walsh and Paul Appleby captivated a capacity York Hall crowd, creating a small hall classic in the process.
Francis Warren talking about the Norton vs. Williams mentioned, “It’s a tough one to call, and there are a lot of competitors at the moment who are capable of capturing the British title. I’m sure Rob will come to fight and will be hungry to get back in the ring as it’s his first fight in two years. I’m sure he and Leon will give the York Hall crowd a great show; and with a possible future contest for the winner with the Conquest vs. Owoh winner, there really is potential for the belt to change hands quite a few times in coming months.”
Chief support sees Ryan Walsh face Liam Richards for the Vacant English Super-Bantamweight title, whilst some of Queensberry’s new crop of fighters including Liam Shinkwin and Danny Davis also aim to show that they’re ones to watch.
