Ahead of the highly anticipated Pacquiao vs Marquez III, Manny Pacquiao and trainer Freddie Roach have been speaking to the press. Here are the highlights;
MANNY PACQUIAO
Juan Manuel Márquez has the right to make alibis about not winning our two previous fights. It’s because of those alibis that I am so motivated for our upcoming fight. I want to end all the questions he has raised about who won our past fights and who the better fighter is.
The years between each fight has made it more interesting. Which of us has improved more?
I have improved a lot. I am a more complete fighter than when we fought previously. I am now a tow-fisted fighter. My right is as potent, as powerful and as dangerous as my left. I have as much confidence in my right as I do in my left.
Another difference between Márquez and me is that since our second fight, I have challenged bigger opponents with a lot more success than he has.
This will be an exciting fight because our styles make for exciting fights. He like to fight toe-to-toe as I do. We both like action and to engage our opponents.
I have something to prove in this fight.
I expect Márquez to be faster and stronger than the last time we fought. He is the ultimate competitor. I am prepared to go another brutal 12 rounds just like the previous two fights.
There will be a lot of action in this fight. We both have a lot of pride when we enter the ring representing our countries, fighting for the honor of our nations.
Manny Pacquiao on Marquez Fight
“I have never been so motivated as I am for this fight. I almost can’t wait for the fight. I want to prove that he (Marquez) was wrong in wearing that T-shirt claiming he won the last two fights. So this is kind of a special fight, the most important fight in my boxing career, because I want this fight to be the answer to all the doubts that have been raised. Right now, outside the ring, there is nothing personal but when I get into the ring on Nov. 12 it’s going to be personal for us.”
Manny Pacquiao on Marquez’s qualities
“I think compared to five years ago, he is slower than before but I’m not underestimating him because it’s Marquez, he’s a tough boxer and is a very strong opponent.”
Manny Pacquiao on Mayweather fight
“Whatever happens, if the fight goes through or not I’m okay, I don’t need him in my boxing career, I’m already satisfied with what I’ve achieved in boxing – I’ve accomplished all my dreams. People want this fight to happen but I don’t know whether his promoter and my promoter will talk and negotiate about this fight.”
FREDDIE ROACH
The last two times they fought, Manny got complacent after knocking Márquez down. Instead of fighting his own fight he followed Márquez and began fighting his fight. Big mistake. I think Manny won both fights though Manny made them closer than they should have been.
I’m worried that Márquez could have Manny’s number. He is the only fighter who seems to have figured out Manny’s style. That is why I am training Manny for the knockout — to clear the air on who is better. Manny is going to shut up Márquez’s once and for all. I’m sick of his whining.
Márquez will be surprised when he faces this version of Manny. He no longer fights in one direction or with one hand. Manny has become a complete fighter. He moves laterally in both directions and he throws potent punches with both hands. Manny has so many more weapons than the last time they fought. I think Manny knocks out Márquez in the sixth round.
Freddie Roach on Amir Khan vs. Manny Pacquiao
“I don’t see it happening. I don’t think Manny and Amir will want to fight because they have so much mutual respect. I think they have enough respect that they won’t want to do that.”
Pacquiao vs Marquez III sees the World’s best pound for pound fighters return to Primetime this November. Ranked number 1in the pound for pound lists, Manny Pacquiao will be looking to end the controversy by convincingly dispatching long time rival Juan Manuel Marquez. After a controversial points decision and a draw both fighters have a point to prove. The previous battles have delivered knockdowns galore and this fight promises to be no different.
Timothy Bradley steps back into the ring after ten months out and having been stripped of his WBC title as issues with his manager meant a fight with Amir Khan didn’t happen. Bradley will want to return to winning ways and prove he is still the number 1 in the Light Welterweight division. To do that he’ll need to defend his WBO title against former two division champion Joel Cassamayor.
Breidis Prescott also makes a quick return to British TV screens. Following his points loss to Paul McCloskey the only man to knock Amir Khan out aims to get back to winning ways as he challenges for the IBF Latino Light Welterweight crown. An undefeated Mike Alvarado stands in his way, with 41 KO’s from 58 fights between them this has all the makings of a fight of the night candidate.
The card is completed by Luis Cruz vs Juan Burgos for the NABO Super Featherweight championship.
So it’s titles fights all the way on November 12th, another must see night exclusive to Primetime!
