Boxing legend, Joe Frazier reportedly struck with liver cancer

Muhammad Ali conqueror and boxing legend, Joe Frazier may be involved in the fight of his life after reportedly being told of the tragic news that he has developed advanced liver cancer, according to various reports.

Details are still quite vague but rumours have stated that Frazier is in a hospice. If so, this does not bode well for the former champion, who handed Muhammad Ali his first ever career defeat in their 1971 fifteen round classic heavyweight title fight at Madison Square Garden.

A source close to Frazier, who is 67, has claimed, “He’s in serious shape. We’re looking for a miracle. They’re only giving him a short time to live. We need to have as many people as possible praying for Joe right now.”

Frazier had three fights with the self proclaimed, ‘The Greatest’, and fought the likes of George Foreman, light-heavyweight great, Bob Foster and Jerry Quarry. He retired after his final fight which took place in 1981, drawing with Floyd Cummings in an attempted comeback. He won a gold medal at the 1964 olympics and soon after became famed for his mighty left hook that managed to find it’s way flush on Ali’s jaw to create one of the most famous and widely seen photographed knockdowns in boxing history!

Myself and the staff of Ringnews24 send our thoughts to Frazier and those closest to him.
