Return of the Mac

Former WBO World Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Maccarinelli has stepped up to headline the bill at the Queensberry Promotions show on 18th November at York Hall following the unfortunate withdrawal of John Simpson due to a viral infection. Maccarinelli will make his debut at Light Heavyweight and will face unbeaten Hungarian Gyorgy Marosi, who is hot property after winning every fight of his 12 fight career, with 8 of these wins coming by knockout. The fight will be shown live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky platform 456)

The bout marks Maccarinelli’s return to the ring after a yearlong hiatus following a defeat by Alexander Frenkel in Birmingham. Fan favourite Maccarinelli took a year out to reassess, during which he worked in television, most recently becoming well known for his entertaining colour commentary on BoxNation. During his time out, Maccarinelli made the decision to drop down a weight division and to look to establish himself as a world title contender at Light Heavyweight; and in the long term has targeted a world title showdown with former sparring partner, stable mate and Welsh compatriot, WBO Light Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly.

In order to succeed in these ambitions, Maccarinelli will be looking to recapture the form that took him to the dizzy heights of a World Cruiserweight Championship unification bout against David Haye at a sell-out O2 arena in 2008. Following that win Haye went on to become a two weight world champion, now Maccarinelli will be looking to do the same, and starting with a win against the tough Marosi at York Hall is sure to set him up in the best manner possible. Macarinelli said “I’m feeling great at Light Heavyweight, very fast and agile. I’ll be looking to put in a solid performance at York Hall so I can start challenging for domestic and then eventually world titles at Light Heavyweight.”

More short term Maccarinelli will be targeting the winner of tonight’s showdown between Ovil McKensie and Jeff Evans for the vacant Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight Championship in Halifax, and Francis Warren of Queensberry promotions is confident it is a bout that will be made providing Maccarinelli comes through the tough challenge of Marosi. He said “ Enzo will be looking to put in a good performance for the York Hall crowd as he looks to get himself on the road to success at Light Heavyweight and even perhaps to becoming a 2 weight World Champ. However Marosi is unbeaten and judging by his impressive knockout record, I’m sure he will come to fight.  I’m also sure Enzo will also have one eye on tonight’s McKenzie v. Evans bout as he’s enormously keen to take on the winner and to get himself a first title at his new weight. It’s of course a fight that we would be looking to make to fast track Enzo back up the ladder.”

Chief support  of the for the York Hall show sees Tony Conquest, Queensberry’s cruiserweight prospect from Romford,  face former IBF Inter-Continental Super Middleweight title challenger Toks Owoh, whilst Tom Little, Matthew Tew and Menay Edwards will also all get the chance to impress as part of an action packed undercard.

Tickets priced £40 and £60 are available from the Queensberry Promotions Box Office on 01992 550 888 orwww.frankwarren.tv
