Not much going on this weekend. Only three fights and none of them are really blood boiling, gonna-have-a-heart-attack type fights. I guess, Saul Alvarez and Kermit Cintron is a pretty good fight, but, Cintron is such an unmotivated fighter that more than likely we’ll just see Alvarez beat him up before Cintron quits. Anyway, I’ll get to that one later, let’s get to the other couple of fights.
Jo Jo Dan and Selcuk Aydin are going at it again. The first fight was quite the robbery on favor of the home fighter, Aydin. The rematch is taking place in Turkey yet again, and that makes this fight more of a 50/50 fight. If this was in neutral territory Dan would be the easy choice and the right choice. Dan is nice tall, slick southpaw. He’s a very skilled fighter with a good set of tools. He judges distance perfectly and counters with precision timing. Graham Houston, I believe it was, called him Lucian Bute with not much power. That’s pretty much a spot on description. In this fight against Selcuk Aydin, Dan will be backing up, judging distance and looking to pick off Aydin from a far. And he should have a field day with that, Aydin, has crappy below average footwork, walks in straight lines, and is quite crude. The only thing he does have is legit, somewhat world class power. If he gets a good, clean shot on an opponent it’ll do damage. Unfortunately for Aydin, he needs to actually hit the opponent clean do really do damage. He has yet to do that in his step up fights. Against Said Ouali, he got a nice gift…it was a close fight, but Ouali was able to score at will at times. And then the first fight last year against Dan, Dan was able to score at will and land, nice legal shots. Aydin was very ineffective, walked into shots, and the only shots he landed were dirty, behind the head shots. This fight, will more than likely be pretty much the same as the first fight. The only thing is whether or not the judges give Dan the decision. If this was in the States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Antarctica, where ever, Dan wins easily. But, this is in Turkey and what looks to be a wipeout win for Dan, all of a sudden becomes a 50/50 fight. I’ve been going back and forth, and you know what? Screw it, justice has to be served, I’m picking Dan by SD.
How the hell is Adrien Broner and Vicente Martin Rodriguez for a title? Broner is a hell of a prospect. He is quite skilled, nice power, good speed, good defense. He’s an all around good fighter. Him fighting for a title is all right, but how did Rodriguez get this shot? He has a very, very padded record. So much of a padded record he should really be undefeated. He has no notable wins, and he doesn’t have much talent. Below average skills, slow hands, and slow feet. This fight is already over. Broner wins by stoppage whenever he wants to. A major step down for Broner after fighting Daniel Ponce De Leon, and Jason Litzau. This is just a showcase, Andre Berto type fight. This is just to make Broner look good. If Rodriguez wins, it is one of the biggest upsets this year.
Saul Alvarez-Kermit Cintron sounds great on paper, but Cintron is just so…blah. He doesn’t have focus, he lacks mental strength. When the going gets tough, he starts crying, or jumps out of the ring. So, it is tough to get amped for this fight. Cintron has good skills, he’s got a good skill set. Nice speed, good power, he can box from the outside when he wants to, but that’s the key term. When he wants to. Meaning it’s tough for him to stay disciplined. His last three fights he has gone 1-2. He lost to Paul Williams over a year ago…when he jumped out of the ring. He finally came back in July of this year, was throughly beaten by Carlos Molina, then just a month later he took on Antwone Smith, and beat him by close decision. Apparently, that’s all you need in order to get a shot at a world title shot against a top tier division fighter. All in all, he doesn’t deserve it, I’m sure he’s not focused, and is just coming in for that nice payday. Good name fight for Alvarez, but that’s all that it is. Just a name that looks good on his resume. This will be his 4th fight this year, and has looked great against Matthew Hatton, Ryan Rhodes, and then he wasn’t taking Alfonso Gomez seriously. That was just a glorified sparring session. People over reacted too much about that fight. “Oh, he looked terrible” “Oh, he’s a hype job” Nah, he wasn’t taking that fight seriously. I’m sure Alvarez will be back to being focused and he won’t be doing the shoulder roll and what not. He’ll take it seriously and breakdown Kermit Cintron by stoppage. I’m hoping for a Thanksgiving surprise and Cintron really does try and come out to win. It will be a pleasant surprise and then we may have a pretty good fight on our hands. I think that’s a pipe dream though, that’s too much to ask for from Cintron, a fighter, actually trying to fight. Puh-lease. Anyway, Alvarez by stoppage.
