Smith looks for the winner of Selby-Smith

Former British and Commonwealth Featherweight Champion Stephen Smith says it’s too close call between Lee Selby and John Simpson.

Selby and Smith clash at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, this Wednesday (14th December) live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 456, Virgin Ch. 546).

Liverpool’s Smith has faced both men before, beating Simpson twice to take the titles and then losing them to Selby in September in a shock eighth round defeat.

He wants to see Selby win so that he can get a rematch next year, but he says don’t write off tough Scottish warrior Simpson.

“I’m finding this a difficult one to call,” said Smith.

“From a neutral point of view I can’t really separate them, Simpson is very experienced and can draw you in to fight his kind of fight, but Selby is younger and hungrier and will be up for it, it will be a really interesting fight”

“I wouldn’t write Simpson off because he has a habit of beating the favourites like he did against Martin Lindsay and Paul Truscott,”

“If it was from a personal view, I want Selby to win because I want the rematch with him next year and get the chance to win back the titles, but if Simpson wins then I’d have no problems facing him for a third time.”

Remaining tickets priced at £40 and £60 are available from Frank Warren Promotions Box Office on 01992 550 888.

Selby v Smith is live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 456, Virgin Ch. 546) starting at 8pm.
