Britain’s only two reigning world champion boxers, Nathan Cleverly and Ricky Burns have given messages of support to Dereck Chisora, who bids to become the third this Saturday when he takes on Vitali Klitschko for the WBC World Heavyweight Championship in Munich.
WBO World Light Heavyweight Champion Cleverly, who defends his title against Tommy Karpency on 25th February, said, “It will be a huge night for Dereck. Vitali Klitschko will be extremely tough, but all of Britain will be behind him and there’s every chance he could cause an upset. I wish him the very best of luck and it would be great to have another British world champion alongside Ricky Burns and myself”
Whilst Burns, who defends his WBO World Lightweight Championship against Paulus Moses on 10th March said, “We’ve seen great upsets in the past before in the heavyweight division, Buster Douglas against Mike Tyson, Hasim Rahman against Lennox Lewis and when Corrie Sanders knocked out Vitali’s younger brother Wladamir. With men of that size, all it takes is one punch, and I’m confident that Dereck is capable of surprising a lot of people on Saturday night and hope he does. Whatever happens it’s great to see another Brit fighting at that level and I can’t wait to watch all the action live on BoxNation.”
The backing of Britain’s two World Champions follows the statement from last week from Britain’s former heavyweight king Lennox Lewis, who said he thought Chisora was capable of causing an upset against his former opponent Klitschko. With these endorsements from world champion operators, past and present, Chisora will be full of confidence as he heads in to the clash in Munich.
The only place to catch the action in the UK will be on BoxNation. The new subscription based dedicated boxing channel is available for £10 a month and having added the global super fight of pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather’s showdown with Miguel Cotto to their already packed schedule of world title fights, boxing fans have never seen such fantastic value for less than the cost of a pint per week.
