FORMER MISS WALES TO SING ANTHEM AT CLEVERLY FIGHT
Singing sensation Courtenay Hamilton, former Miss Wales for 2010, will belt out the Welsh anthem Land Of My Fathers before Nathan Cleverly’s WBO World Light-Heavyweight title defence this Saturday night in Cardiff.
Cleverly defends his title for the first time in Wales in a near sold-out Motorpoint Arena against tough American Tommy Karpency, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 456/Virgin Ch. 546).
Welsh warbler Hamilton, who is classically trained and is hot on the heels of rival Katherine Jenkins, is a regular fixture at the Millennium Stadium in front of sell-out crowds for the Wales’ home football matches and is looking forward to performing at her first world championship boxing event.
The 21-year-old, who also represented Wales at the Miss World competition in China last year, said, “Nathan is a hero in Wales and it was an honour to be asked to sing Land Of My Fathers before he defends his world title,”
“I love singing and even though I’m used to singing in the Millennium Stadium in front of big crowds for the football matches, I’m really nervous about getting into a boxing ring for the first time at the Motorpoint,”
“The anthem is a very emotional and I hope that the crowd will all join in with me and sing as loud as possible to lift Nathan towards a knockout performance.”
Unbeaten Cleverly, who will also have new celebrity fan Carol Vorderman ringside on the night, said, “I’m delighted that Courtenay is singing at my Welsh homecoming. It’s going to be a fantastic night with Carol there as well so the pressure’s on for me to make sure I put on devastating performance against Karpency.”
