QUEENSBERRY PROMOTIONS PRESENTS BOX ACADEMY
INTRODUCING THE CLASS OF 2012
On 12th April, at York Hall, Queensberry Promotions presents the first instalment of a new concept show that will be televised Live and Exclusive on the UK’s new home of televised boxing, BoxNation.
BoxACADEMY , will be a monthly live show that is solely dedicated to showcasing the most exciting, young, up and coming domestic talent in tougher, more action packed fights, designed to develop the young fighters at a faster rate to Championship level.
On one Thursday every month, BoxNation will switch the focus from its huge array of World, British and European title contests, and give the floor to a host of former Olympians, amateur champions and unbeaten prospects, as the UK’s elite young talent is given the chance to be the main focus of the show in BoxACADEMY.
BoxACADEMY will visit the various regional hot-beds for young boxing talent around the country, visiting a different city each month.
BoxNation’s televised coverage of BoxACADEMY events will be supplemented with an array of behind the scenes interviews, training footage and background stories, giving viewers the chance to get to properly know tomorrow’s champions.
The debut show at York Hall on 12th April will feature Queensberry’s Southern Area Cruiserweight champion and unbeaten 7-0 prospect Tony Conquest taking on Scotland’s 2006 Commonwealth Games medallist and former amateur star Stephen Simmons in a ten round contest. Michael Walsh, one of the three fighting brothers of Cromer, gets his chance to step out of his siblings shadows in an eight round contest. Walsh brings a clean sweep of 8 stoppage wins across his 8 pro contests.
The rest of the card features some of the elite in young boxing talent from the South East and London. ABA champion John Dignum returns to the ring for his second pro contest, whilst Hoddesdon flyweight and ABA finalist Charlie Hoy also gets his second pro outing. ABA finalist Tom Baker and ABA Champion Mitchell Smith both debut and unbeaten pro Gary Corcoran will also feature.
Francis Warren of Queensberry Promotions said, “ We think the concept of BoxACADEMY will be a real revelation in the development of the huge wealth of young, talented upcoming fighters that we have in the UK. The shows will give the prospects the chance to be the focus, rather than being an afterthought of the main event.”
He added “ We’ve got a fantastic line up for the first show at York Hall. A great mix of sterling amateur pedigree and unbeaten prospects who have flourished in their early pro careers, I just can’t wait to see it all come together on the 12th April.”
BoxNation CEO Simon Green said, “I’m thrilled that BoxNation will be launching Box Academy on the channel with Queensberry Promotions. BoxNation viewers are familiar with seeing regular World Title bouts alongside the best newcomers but Box Academy will allow the best young UK prospects to be showcased properly and to be seen up close and personal.
Tickets for BoxACADEMY on 12th April at York Hall are priced at £35 and £50 and are available from the Queensberry Promotions Box Office on 01992 550 888 or www.frankwarren.tv
