Floyd Mayweather Jr and Miguel ‘Angel’ Cotto will not only now be battling for Cotto’s 154lb ‘Super’ WBA title but the WBC Diamond belt will now be on
the line for both fighters on May 5th.
The Cotto vs Mayweather Jr contest will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in a fight that has got mouth’s watering. The fight is expected to do big numbers on Pay Per View.
Cotto first won the ‘Super’ WBA title when he beat Ricardo Mayorga in March of 2010 and while the involvement of that belt would have just been the “the cherry on top”, WBC president, Jose Sulumain is also very proud that the WBC Diamond belt will also be on the line.
“These elite boxers will fight for the diamond title. The promoters asked us for permission to have them fight for this belt and the answer is yes, because it makes the fight even more special”, Sulumain said.
