Lebedev overpowers Cox

Champion Denis Lebedev retained his interim WBA World cruiserweight title at the Crocus City Hall, Myakinino, Russia against challenger Shawn Cox, of Barbados.

Cox started the first round quickly and came out looking to land his big shots and did catch the champion in the opener. Lebedev came out for the second round and took control with effective pressure until he landed a ferocious, accurate straight right hand that dropped the challenger, who was unable to beat the count.

Denis Lebedev improves to 24-1, 18 KOs while Cox record falls to 16 – 2, 15 KOs

Earlier on the show undefeated Russian Alexander Bakhtin won a unanimous 12-round decision over former WBA World bantamweight title champion Nehomar Cermeno. Bakhtin was excellent all through the bout and dicatatd the tempo and pace of the bout while picking his shots superbly. Cermeno really didn’t have an answer and was unable to impose himself on the fight. Bakhtin looks a legitimate contender, in the super bantamweight division, and will be a tough nights work for any of the current World champions.

Bakhtin’s record improves to 29-0, 11 KOs while Cermeno drops to 20-5-1, 12 KOs.
