WBA light-middleweight champion, Miguel Cotto has stated that his training for his May 5th showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is going well.
Cotto said the training workouts are more intense than ever before but knows that is a necessity in attempting to beat the unbeaten five weight champion.
“So far, the training is bearing the fruit that we expected and we have done very well in camp. The workouts are strong and that makes it different because they are more intense routines.”
Cotto’s trainer, Pedro Luis Diaz is working with Miguel for the second time since Cotto’s bloody destruction of Antonio Margarito last year in New York and the Puerto Rican fighter had nothing but praise for him.
“Pedro gives his best effort in his work and I give mine. This is the reason why there is such a good chemistry between us. We are working to achieve victory on May 5th by following the plans and the fight pattern that Pedro has developed,” said Cotto.
Whatever Diaz has worked out for Cotto, I just hope that he has enough knowledge to realise that he will need several gameplans to workout the ever changing puzzle that is Floyd Mayweather otherwise he will become just another victim of the 42-0 boxer. This writer believes that Cotto is now a faded force but that does not stop me from feeling excitement for the bout, as we all know that Cotto always gives it 110% percent every time he is in the ring.
