Gilberto ‘Lefty’ Ramirez going for a KO against Jaime Barboza this Saturday in Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico

Arandas, Jalisco. – This Saturday the World Boxing Council Youth Champion, Gilberto “Lefty” Ramirez (20-0, 18 KOs) puts his title and his undefeated status on the line against Costa Rican Jaime “The Indio “Barboza (17-6, 8 KOs) in the ROAD TO GLORY card presented by Canelo Promotions at Aranda?s Municipal Auditorium.

Ramirez arrived to the city yesterday, along with the rest of the headline fighters, including Victor “Viking” Terrazas, Jesus “Estrellita” Ruiz, Cristian “Italiano” Esquivel and Jaime Barboza.

The Mazatlan fighter met with the fans in a crowded afternoon autograph session held at the Plaza de Armas where he was shown strong support and best wished for his fight this Saturday. Hours later, Ramirez made one of his last training exercises in the boxing gym of Aranda?s Unidad Deportiva where he first met his opponent Jaime Barboza, who also conducted his pre fight training session.

“Barbosa looks in great shape and very strong. I am sure he came very well prepared for this fight and I am sure he understands that he also has a lot on the line and this fights is pivotal in his career, but I am convinced that I can beat him. I will try to use my punching power and look for the knockout this Saturday,” said Gilberto Ramirez.

The Costa Rica?s Jaime Barboza is the fourth non-Mexican opponent faced in a row by Ramirez. Before him, the 6?2?, 20 year champion fough Argentine Amilcar Funes and Colombian Oney Valdes and Samuel Miller.

Barboza in turn has a record of four wins and one defeat against Mexican fighters; with his best performance against being a knockout over then-undefeated super welterweight world junior champion Joseph “Barretas” Pinzon.

?I know Ramirez is young and very strong, but I think that I have the experience in this fight. Fighting in Mexico is no different that fighting anywhere and the crowd means very little once in the ring?, said the challenger.

The fight between Ramirez and Barboza will be broadcast on Saturday from 10:30 CST in Noches de Corona on Televisa?s Channel 5.
