WBA champion Austin Trout chats with Ringnews24 ahead of his clash with Delvin Rodriguez

Ringnews24.com: Your next fight is a fantastic match up with Delvin Rodriguez, how did that fight come about Austin?

Austin Trout: Actually we have been trying to fight Delvin since after his first Wolak fight. For one reason or another it didn’t pan out until now. Al Haymon and my promoter Greg Cohen made it happen!

Ringnews24.com: Could you give us some details about your training camp when does it start? where will you be training?, who will be in your team? and who you will be sparring in preparation for Rodriguez?

Austin Trout: We have started camp I’d say we are a good solid two weeks in. I’m sparring with amateur standout Siju Shabazz, undefeated Abie Han, and Tim Meeks. We are still looking for more sparring to push me. I train in my hometown of Las Cruces NM.

Ringnews24.com: Have you seen much footage of Delvin Rodriguez? What do you think of him as a fighter?

Austin Trout: Yeah I have seen his tapes, and I’ve actually followed his career a bit, I am a fan first so it’s not uncommon for me to have followed my opponents prior to me fighting them. I think Delvin is a good smart, technical, exciting, fighter who will bring a good fight to me for you all.

Ringnews24.com: What do you think of Kirkland, Bundrage, Alvarez, Cotto and the other top guys in your division?

Austin Trout: Also a group of exciting fighters to make up one of the hottest weight classes today. I’m proud to be a part of it, and even more excited to prove that I am the best in it!

Ringnews24.com: You recently said to Ringnews24 that your dream opponent would be Alvarez or Cotto. If you defeat Rodriguez do you believe that would be a step closer to fighting your dream opponent?

Austin Trout: Oh most definitely! I feel a good performance against a warrior like Delvin will get the public clamoring for a Trout vs Cotto, or Trout vs. Canelo.

Ringnews24.com: You are the WBA World light middleweight champion, do you feel added pressure going into these fights now as a champ? compared to when you first won the belt against Rigoberto Alvarez as a challenger?

Austin Trout: No not necessarily, I just feel like the underdog, like I still have to take the title from my opponent. I feel like the powers that be don’t want me at the top and will use any bad performance as a way to get me it of there, so my pressure is always on to perform great because I am not going anywhere anytime soon.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a prediction for the fight?

Austin Trout: I feel it will be a good highly contested fight….for a while, I feel that I will start pulling away n the later rounds for a late stoppage. Although, I am training for a full all out 12 round war!

Ringnews24.com: Message for the fans?

Austin Trout: Thank you all! My time is now and if you have been rocking with the kid then you know it’s been a journey, but the journey isn’t close to over and I feel it’s just getting started. God bless you all!

Ringnews24.com:  Good luck Austin and we wish you well in your fight with Delvin Rodriguez.
