A Fans Perspective: Joe Mitchell

Intro:

I’m 22, was born in Poole, Dorset, UK and am the creator of the boxing scorecard applications (phone). I’ve been in and out of work the past year but am going to University, in September, to study Media Production.

Ringnews24.com: What age did you become interested in boxing and why?

I was always a sports fanatic but really got into boxing aged 16 and that was down to Ricky Hatton and his fights with Castillo and Mayweather. They really got me excited, so I decided to join a few forums and have been a hardcore boxing head since.

Ringnews24.com: What was the first fight you ever saw (on TV) or heard live (radio)?

It was most likely Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson – I watched it on box office around a friend’s house.

Ringnews24.com: What was the first fight you ever attended?

I have yet to go to a live event but I’m planning to go to at least three this year including Froch vs. Bute and Pacquiao vs. Bradley.

Ringnews24.com: Have you boxed and, if yes, at what level?

Boxed on and off since age 10, still boxing but have had no amateur fights, as yet, but can when I think I’m ready, even though it’s an amateur fight I want to be prepared.

Ringnews24.com: Who is your favourite fighter from the past?

Even though it’s recent probably Ricky Hatton

Ringnews24.com: What is the best fight that you ever saw?

Probably Michael Katsidis vs. Graham Earl that will always be in my head even though there are probably better ones.

Ringnews24.com: Who is your favourite active fighter and Why?

From the UK, Carl Froch – I’ve watched all of his fights and he has had a great run of fights, unfortunately he has become slightly deluded and I think his career is in decline. Also, Tim Bradley -people may say “what?” but I really think he is the next big star in boxing along with Andre Ward.

Ringnews24.com: If you had to tip one Prospect to go all the way, who would it be?

I wouldn’t call them prospects but they are on the verge of big things Mikey Garcia, Kell Brook and Gennady Golovkin. An Amateur who I think will go all the way is Luke Campbell.

Ringnews24.com: Who wins in the following fights?

Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto:

Mayweather – It’s a Cotto payday and a casual fans dream match. It could smash records (TV) but blinded by the fact Mayweather picked Cotto and he will win and convincingly – once again.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley:

Bradley will end Pacquiao’s career, already the excuses are brewing for a Pacquiao lose, and Bradley will beat him over 12 rounds, just hope he doesn’t get robbed.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao:

Mayweather wins easy; I don’t think it will happen because Bradley is going to ruin it all.

Ringnews24.com: Who do you rank as the best Heavyweight of all-time?

Joe Louis

Ringnews24.com: Who do you rate as the best fighter of all-time?

Sugar Ray Robinson

Ringnews24.com: Who do you rate as the current best fighter?

Floyd Mayweather – his legacy could have been immense.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have any involvement in boxing now and in what capacity?

I have my (Boxing scorecard) ‘apps’ but would like to get a job inside the boxing world, in the media. Still, box as a hobby, but my coach thinks I’m a natural, so I will see how it goes.

Ringnews24.com: What other hobbies do you have besides following boxing?

I love going out running and am a big Arsenal fan.
