Jones and Churcher clash this Saturday

‘Enter The Dragons’ this Saturday in Newport

Newport, South Wales has in recent years been the main centre for Welsh boxing and that trend continues this Saturday, 19th May, as Inner Core promotions present ‘Enter The Dragons’.

Top of a packed bill is the Welsh Middleweight title fight between the experienced Barrie Jones, of Ferndale, against local favourite Lee Churcher.

Barrie Jones, 27, has been a professional since 2004 and has shared the ring with a lot of high quality opponents including Kell Brook, Souleymane M’baye and Jason Cook. Jones has won his last three fights and his overall record stands at 19 Wins, 9 Loses with 7 KOs.

Lee Churcher, 31, turned professional in 2009 and has previously fought for the Welsh Middleweight title, the bout with Gary Cooper ended in a fifth round technical draw. Churcher , has also won his last three bouts and his overall record stands at 9 Wins, 3 Loses, 1 Draw with 2 KOs.

It’s an intriguing bout as Churcher, is the naturally heavier man while Jones has fought at a higher level. The ten rounder for the Welsh Middleweight title will be hotly contested.

The undercard features undefeated Justyn Hugh (9-0-1, 2 KOs) against Steffan Huges (3-6, 1 KO) in a light heavyweight contest and the debut of Jason Samuels against Sean Gorman (2-10-1, 2 KOs) at welterweight. Samuels, is the son of former British light middleweight title challenger, Paul Samuels.

Undefeated Lance Sheehan, of Aberdare, looks to make it 5 wins, out of 5, against Lithuanian Simas Vlosinas – who enters the ring with 2 wins and 3 defeats. The bout takes place in the Lightweight division.

Also, on the card are the unbeaten Craig Woodruff (1-0) taking on Liam Ellis (0-3), in a super featherweight bout while at light heavyweight, Lewis Patterson makes his debut against Joe Jones (0-5).

More bouts still to be confirmed on the bill.
