Former IBF and WBA light-welterweight champion, Amir Khan and current WBC champion Danny Garcia came head to head at their press conference yesterday to announce their July 14th contest taking place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, and the conference delivered more fireworks than expected!
Garcia delivered the usual lines of what a fighter usually says, stating that nobody has seen the best of him and that he cannot wait to show the world what he is about, but it was his father Angel Garcia that had some choice words for the Bolton boxer, going so far as to call him overrated.
“Khan is an overrated fighter. First of all, he got knocked out in Europe. Peterson whupped him like an octopus, hitting him from all kinds of angles and then he (Khan) blamed it on the judges. When Danny starts hitting you with these hammers, what are you going to start to blame it on? The gloves will have rocks in them? What are you going to do? One-two, roll out, all night?” said Angel Garcia.
Khan fired back, “When I beat your son, am I still going to be overrated? We will see what happens.”
Danny Garcia, 23-0, had more respect.
“Khan’s a great fighter. I’m a great fighter. When you put two great fighters together, you get an awesome show. And that’s why I’m here. That’s why I signed up for boxing. I let my dad do the talking. He’s the one that talks,” said Garcia.
