Abraham and Stieglitz to fight on August 25th

A press conference announced that Robert Stieglitz will face Arthur Abraham on August 25th for Stiegltz’s WBO super-middleweight crown in a mandatory defence at the 02 World arena in Berlin.

“I’m happy that this fight will take place at 02 World. I was hoping for another chance to show my skills in this incredible arena in front of as many fans as possible. I am looking forward to entertaining them again, like I did back in 2009 with my last round knockout against Jermain Taylor,” said Abraham.

Champion Stieglitz said, “That’s my belt and we are going to battle for it. In the end it will still be mine. I will prove that my championship is legitimate, no matter of the opposition, time or place.

Abraham’s main time at the top has been spent at the middleweight division. He made ten defences of the IBF crown before heading to 168lb to participate in the Super Six tournament, losing to Andre Dirrell, Carl Froch and Andre Ward. He grabbed the European belt at the beginning of this year and has made one defence against Piotr Wilczewski.

Stieglitz has made six defences in his current reign as WBO champion. He’s suffered two knockout defeats to Librado Andrade and Alejandro Berrio, the latter being his first shot at a world title. He hasn’t faced many hard punchers in the past few years, so he will have to take care against Abraham, who has racked up 27 knockouts in 34 victories.
