Pavlik, Lee, & Magdeleno Victorious; Crawford Impresses

Last night on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights, Kelly Pavlik continued his return in a bout with Scott Sigmon.  Here is my report on the fights:

Rudy Puga vs. Tommy Turner – 4 Rounds Super Middleweights

In what was a filler fight to delay the broadcast because of a baseball game turned into a short but very fun fight to watch.  Rudy Puga (3-0)  proved he was on a higher level of skill set than he opponent Tommy “Samurai” Turner (2-2-1) dropping his once in the first round and 3 times in the 2nd before Referee Tony Weeks called a halt to the action at the 2:19 mark of round 2.

Mike Lee vs. Eliseo Durazo – 6 Rounds Light Heavyweight

Mike Lee (9-0) stayed undefeated winning a, none to impressive, Unanimous Decision over rugged journeyman Eliseo Durazo (3-3).  Durazo, who took the fight on 5 days notice,  had his moments throughout the night was pretty much out boxed over the course of 6 rounds by the Notre Dame Alumni.  All 3 judges scored the fight 59-54 in favor of Mike Lee.

Jesse Magdaleno vs. Carlos Valcarcel – 8 Rounds Super Bantamweight

Jesse Magdaleno (10-0) made short work of completely outmatched Carlos Valcarcel (12-5-4) dropping him once before Tony Weeks stepped in to wave off the fight at the 2:25 mark of the 1st Round.

Kelly Pavlik vs. Scott Sigmon – 10 Rounds Super Middleweight

Kelly Pavlik (39-2) notched another victory as he climbs his way back up the proverbial ladder over the outmatched Scott Sigmon (22-4).  Sigmon had a lot to say during the build up of this fight but simply had nothing for the “Ghost”.  Sigmon’s highlight was coming to the ring to the Ghostbusters’s theme song.  Finally, after 7 one sided rounds and absorbing punishment the ringside physician and referee Jay Nady called a halt to the action.

After this victory, Pavlik is expected to make a decision on whether or not he will face Adonis Stevenson in an IBF Super Middleweight Eliminator.  Pavlik may not have notched an explosive knockout everyone expected, but he was able to put some rounds of work.  On a side note, Judge Herb Santos had scored rounds 6 & 7 10-8 in favor of Pavlik.

After TV Fight:  Terence Crawford vs. David Rodela – 8 Rounds Lightweights

Terence Crawford (17-0) was dominant against former Pacquiao sparring partner David Rodela (16-6-4).  Crawford had the advantage of speed and power against the game Rodela.  He was consistently able to beat Rodela to the punch dropping him twice in the 1st round.  Finally in the 2nd Round, Crawford landed a wicked body shot and Rodela was unable to beat referee Jay Nady’s count.  The official time of stoppage was 2:30 of the 2nd round.
