August 18th Is Fight Night At Ashland University In Ohio

Professional boxing is coming back to Ashland,Ohio for the first time since 1970. Hall Of Fame promoter Don Chagrin is putting on the show. It will be a six bout card. In the main event Mansfield,Ohio’s undefeated Marc Salzer (14-0) will put his International Boxing Association Continental Super Lightweight title on the line. His opponent will be Chris “Hurricane” Howard (14-1) of Tennessee. The bout is scheduled for ten rounds. Salzer is trained by Mickey Scodova who guided the career of once world ranked junior welterweight Craig Weber.

Also appearing in a six round co-feature will be the popular Lorain,Ohio junior middleweight Wilkins Santiago. After a sterling amateur career (72-9), Santiago is now (6-0) as a professional. Four bouts all scheduled for four rounds will make up the rest of the card. In the last pro boxing show put on in Ashland in 1970, world ranked light heavyweights Ray Anderson and Hal “TNT” Carroll battled it out. In their careers both would meet and lose to the great Bob Foster in light heavyweight title fights.

Former Major League pitcher and 1964 Cy Young winner Dean Chance is the President of the International Boxing Association. Also on hand will be guest ring announcer Amy Hayes. The card will be held at Kates Gymnasium on the campus of Ashland University. The show will start at 7:00 PM.
