Lavarn “Baby Bowe” Harvell: “I just look at every fight as a step to getting close to becoming champion”

ATG Radio goes LIVE every Monday & Wednesday night from 9-11 PM EST. The show is hosted by Frank Stea @FrankStea, Michael Doss, Jake Donovan @JakeNDaBox , Kim Francesca @KimFrancesca and produced by Tim Kudgis @BigTimeTimmyATG

Last night on ATG Radio, the ATG Crew had the opportunity to speak to undefeated and rising prospect Lavarn “Baby Bowe” Harvell (12-0) out of Atlantic City, NJ.  “Baby Bowe” will be fighting this Saturday in his hometown on GFL.TV against the always dangerous TBA.  We had the chance to discuss his upcoming fight, boxing history in Atlantic City, the Philly vs. South Jersey rivalry, Isaiah Seldon and much more.  Here are some of the highlights from the interview:

On what we will see from him on Saturday night on GFL.TV:

“You are going to see me do what I do best.  I train hard for every fight so I can perform my best!”

On his opponent (TBA) may be:

“We have a few names.  One we are looking at more so than the others.  For this fight they want me to go up to 180 lbs.  That should not be a problem for me to move up a few pounds to fight this guy.  I just plan on going in there and using my fundamentals to overcome him like my other opponents.”

On Atlantic City’s boxing background:

“I actually grew up in the city (Atlantic City).  I grew up around John Brown he was a champion.  I was actually sparring today with Isaiah Seldon which is Bruce Seldon’s son.  We had Bruce Seldon of course.  The great Levander Johnson is from here, which I get some great pad work sometimes with his dad.  Of course the people that passed through here that I’ve gotten to meet.  This is a good place to grow up if you want to be in the fight game!”

On Isaiah Seldon:

“Isaiah is a guy unlike me who has no amateur background; he went straight to the pros.  He is learning on the job and with every fight he gets better and better.  I give him pointers and we get sparring in.  He is getting better and better with every fight.  It is not going to be long before he is another top guy to look at.”

On whom he wants to fight in the future:

“We have a few guys.  The guy Anthony Caputo Smith is one of the guys I look forward to fighting.  We have a lot of guys out there from this area and Philadelphia.  He is one guy I have always been looking at.”

On the South Jersey vs. Philadelphia rivalry:

“Well I don’t know about South Jersey in a whole but my guys in the amateurs use to run through Philly.  My guys are the guys that couldn’t be beaten when we were up in Philly.  Other than that I just stay humble and don’t really look into the rivalry things.  I just look at every fight as a step to getting close to becoming champion, which is what I want to be!”
