Liverpool star vows to reward loyal fans with Miranda KO
Tony Bellew says he will repay his loyal fans for coming down to London with a KO win over Edison Miranda on the Betfair London’s Calling card at Alexandra Palace, live on Sky Sports HD1 from 8.30pm.
Bellew and Miranda meet in a mouth-watering light heavyweight clash that has captured the public’s imagination and has pundits predicting a knockout night in north London.
The Liverpool man, who tipped the scales at 12st 6lb 8oz, said he is honoured that his army of fans are travelling down to the capital and is ready to put on a show for them against ‘Pantera’, who scaled 12st 6lb 12oz.
“I feel fantastic and cannot wait to get in there,” said Bellew, 5-6 to end the fight inside the distance with Betfair. “The talking stops now and he’s got nowhere to run, tomorrow he’ll find out what Tony Bellew is all about.
“I’m ready for work and I’m ready for the job I’m going to do, I chose this guy not the other way round.
“There’s coach loads coming down tomorrow from Liverpool and I can’t thank them enough for their amazing support. I can promise them that they will not go back to Merseyside disappointed.”
Bellew and Miranda headline a great season opener on Sky Sports ably supported by a top class undercard. Lee Purdy is aiming to break into the World welterweight scene by beating unbeaten Argentine Gumersindo Carrasco in their chief support bout for the IBF International welterweight title. Exciting light middleweight star Erick Ochieng defends his English title for the second time against Southern Area champ Ryan Toms, hotly tipped Islington middleweight John Ryder will also be in action while popular unbeaten Chris ‘The Flash’ Evangelou fights for the first title of his career when he tackles Danny Connor for the vacant Southern Area light welterweight title.
There is a debut for Team GB star Martin Ward who hopes to follow the example set by Kal Yafai when he stopped Delroy Spencer on his debut in July. Yafai fights for the second time as a pro, as does cruiserweight prospect Wadi Camacho and Ryan ‘Crash Bang’ Taylor completes the line-up in his seventh pro outing.
