Clash of the Titans – Shapes up nicely

Phil Jeffries has announced the full line-up for his first promotion of this boxing season – ‘Clash of the Titans’ at the Hartlepool Borough Hall on September 30.

County Durham’s Martin Ward against Nottingham’s Jason Booth for the English bantamweight strap, and the all North East pairing of Darlington’s Neil Hepper and Fishburn’s Gary Fox for the Northern Area lightweight belt have been slated for some time, but, with the rest of the undercard now also confirmed, fight fans are looking at an afternoon of top entertainment.

Mansfield’s Rob Sharpe, 2-3 (1), was in a real war with David Lake on the South Shields scrapper’s debut at the Stadium of Light last year and will be a good test for Hartlepool’s Callum Winton in his second outing.

Lee Duncan won’t be a pushover for Gateshead’s unbeaten Rob Ismay in his seventh fight.  The Sheffield fighter may have lost seven of 13 but has only been stopped twice and, in his last fight, went four rounds with Edinburgh hard-man Kenny Anderson who contests the British title in October.

Scunthorpe’s Steve Spence gave Newcastle’s Mark Clauzel a decent workout at the Stadium of Light in July and will be a good learning fight for Horden’s Greg O’Neill; while Hartlepool’s unbeaten Peter Cope, fresh off his International Masters win over Gavin Reid, gets Middlesex’s Michael Stupart 1-5-1 (1).

The opponent for Middlesbrough’s stylish Mohammed Waqas will be announced shortly.

“Obviously the headline bout and chief support are going to be absolutely cracking fights, no doubt about it.  When you consider that Jason Booth took on Kid Galahad recently and it was live on Channel 5, then Booth versus Ward for the English title could easily be a TV fight,” stated Jeffries.

“The rest of the card has also shaped up nicely.  Fox versus Hepper will be a war over ten rounds, and could well turn out to be a North East small-hall classic, and I know all the other local lads will give a great account of themselves and will entertain the crowd as they continue to develop in their careers.

“The Hartlepool Borough Hall is a proper boxing venue and the atmosphere will be electric as always.  This is going to be a fantastic afternoon of boxing and is just the first of some exciting shows I have planned for North East fight fans this season.”

‘Clash of the Titans’ will be at the Hartlepool Borough Hall on September 30.  Tickets are available from all boxers, or by calling 0774 7611 020.
