Fielding handed English title shot against Dilks

Rocky Fielding will face fellow Liverpool fighter Carl Dilks for the vacant English super middleweight title on Betfair’s ‘Rocky and the Prizefighters’ bill, at Liverpool Olympia on Saturday October 6, live on Sky Sports.

Fielding had been set to face Wayne Reed for the Central Area belt in his first title shot but has now been handed a golden opportunity to land the English title in a local derby in front of a sold out hometown crowd.

“This is a great opportunity for Rocky,” said promoted Eddie Hearn. “We thought the English title would come later in the year but Rocky has now been presented with the chance and he is ready for the challenge.

“There is no doubt that this will be a tough bout and I am excited to see two Liverpool boxers fighting for local pride as well as the English title in front of a hometown crowd. Combined with our strongest ever Prizefighter line-up this promises to be a spectacular night of boxing in Merseyside.”

The Betfair Prizefighter Lightweights II precedes the English title fight on the night with a stellar line-up gunning for the title and £32,000 winner’s cheque. Anthony ‘Million Dollar’ Crolla took the final spot in the line-up at the end of last month and will be vying for revenge over local favourite Derry Mathews, who took Crolla’s British belt with a sixth-round stoppage in April.

Dewsbury’s former British super featherweight champion Gary Sykes will also be involved with Hull’s unbeaten Tommy ‘Boom Boom’ Coyle and another Yorkshireman in Liam Patrick Walsh, while three more Merseysiders complete the line-up in unbeaten Nathan Brough, Stephen Jennings and Terry Needham.

Tickets for Betfair’s ‘Rocky and the Prizefighters’ are completely sold-out.
