Chad Dawson dropped trainer John Scully, after the Andre Ward fight, and went back to his old trainer Eddie Mustafa. John Scully discusses the separation and Dawson’s recent fight with Adonis Stevenson.
Anthony George: First I wanted to hear it, from you, about why Dawson had left you. What were the circumstances, why you weren’t in his corner and not training him anymore?
John Scully: To be completely honest, I have no idea. I never spoke to Chad since the Andre Ward fight. I never spoke to anyone in his camp or his lawyer. I don’t know, I read about it on the internet that he was going back with Eddie Mustafa. But to be completely honest with you like 100% truthly honest, that saved me the trouble of telling him that I was not going to work with him anymore. Because of the way the Ward camp went it was very bad as you saw the result of the fight. I didn’t think that I was connecting with Chad anymore and his strength coach and I really butted heads in that training camp. To be honest with you, I thought about it and spending time away from my daughter, going thought that type of stupidity, I was done. He never called me and I never touched base with him and that was it. We pretended each other didn’t exist.
